3D TV Viewers

3D TV viewers are the red-cyan glasses used to watch the original 3D movies. These are the type of glasses used to watch the first 3D movie back in the 1920s and they are still used to watch some movies, in some movie theaters, today. However these glasses should not be confused with the 3D TV active shutter glasses that are commonly used to watch 3D TV in your home. They are not interchangeable and work in very different manners.

A quick introduction to the differences. 3D TV viewers work by filtering the image based on the color of the lens. The 3D movie has two images, slightly offset, present at the same time and each is done in a slightly different color. The glasses allow one image to be seen by the left eye and one image to be seen by the right eye.

With active shutter glasses the TV does not display both images at the time time. Instead it rapidly alternates between the image for the left eye and the image for the right eye. The glasses are synchronized with the TV and when the image for the left eye is displayed the right eye lens is shuttered, or blocked, and then it repeats for the other eye. This happens very rapidly, therefore if you were to try and watch this without glasses it would appear blurry because you would see two slightly offset images. However with the shutter glasses this provides a clear high quality 3D image. If can find more detail on how the 3D TV works.

Note, active shutter glasses, unlike most 3D TV viewers, are designed to comfortable fit over prescription eye glasses. Therefore if you normally wear glasses to watch TV you can continue to do so when watching 3D TV with active shutter glasses.

Buy 3D TV Glasses
If you are interested in 3D glasses to watch the latest 3D TVs there are a few things you will want to consider. One is that the active shutter glasses are not interchangeable across TV brands. Although the TVs and glasses all work in generally the same way, the method that the glasses and TV use to synchronize has not been standardized across brands. Therefore it is best to purchase glasses that are the same brand as your TV. See 3D TV Glasses for additional information to help you identify the correct glasses for your needs as well as a large selection of glasses for purchase.
