Selecting Your 40 LCD TV While selecting your LCD television, you will run across several terms that may be new to you. We will explain them here to simply your LCD TV search.
HDTV LCD TV – This refers to High Definition Television. Usually defined by the resolution and often referred to as 720P, 1080I or 1080P. Although HDTV is more then just video, it also includes audio of 5.1 or higher. For additional details on video see our 1080P vs 720P article. For additional details on audio, see our Home Theater Speaker article.
Widescreen LCD TV – This refers to the Aspect Ratio or width to the height of your screen. Although there are several other sizes available by far the most popular are 4:3 and 16:9. 16:9 is the Widescreen format and the new format for HDTV. For additional details see our Plasma Television Guide article.
Flat LCD TV – This does not necessarily mean it will hang on the wall. Flat refers to the screen rather then the round CRT screens of just a few years ago. Most of the new televisions are flat. Flat televisions do provide better viewing angles then rounded screens. Sometimes the term flat panel is used to differ from projection since LCD televisions come in both. See our LCD TV Selection article.
HD LCD TV – High Definition Liquid Crystal Display Television. For additional information see DLP vs LCD article.
