How Does 3D TV Work

When comparing 3D TVs, you will quickly notice that the 3D capabilities do not differ much. Some, such as Samsung, have neat built in features such as the ability to convert 2D content to 3D content but most of the 3D features are similar. Currently all major brands require 3D Active Shutter glasses that synchronize the glasses with the TV. Therefore the deciding criteria and factors to use when comparing 3D TVs are likely the same as you would use to purchase a HD TV. Here are a few thoughts.

Some TV technologies such as LED, LCD and Plasma are better for hanging on the wall since they are thinner than other technologies such as Laser and DLP. LED, LCD and Laser will be better in bright rooms and Plasma and Laser will be better in dark rooms. Laser and LED are more energy efficient than Plasma and DLP. There is a new technology called OLED that allows for ultra thin TVs but they are not yet available in larger sizes. Speaking of size if you are considering a TV over 60 inches, Laser and DLP will be significantly cheaper than the other technologies with the price difference being greater as the TV gets bigger. 3D TV Content
It is hard to enjoy the 3D features of your new 3D TV without 3D TV content which is a problem at the moment. There are some 3D movies available however you will need a 3D Blu Ray player to watch them. There are also 3D TV channels, Direct TV is first to offer them but cable is quickly following along. And for the video gamers, there are 3D video games. However in the immediate term there is little available relative to 2D programming, therefore many will choose to watch content converted from 2D to 3D.
