Cantilever Plasma TV Mount

Cantilever Plasma TV Mount

A cantilever plasma TV mount is a kind of mounting device that uses an arm which you can adjust in order to make your plasma TV face in whatever direction that you want. Most cantilever plasma TV mounts are set up with one or two joints that pivot so that you can change the direction of the flat screen TV along a single axis; some kinds of more advanced cantilever plasma tv wall mounts are set up so that you can change the orientation of the plasma TV flat screen or LCD TV flat screen to face up or down (tilt) as well as in any direction from side to side (rotate). These kinds of cantilever plasma TV mounts are an excellent choice for large open areas in the home, but are most often used in restaurants, bars, or other public spaces where you want the plasma or LCD flat screen TV to be visible over a large area for many customers.

Being that this type of mount is extremely flexible, as far as angles and options for where you can place your TV, not surprisingly this is also the most expensive of the mount types. Reasoning for this is that the joints and arms that allow for the movement need to be pretty strong to support the weight of the TV when the arms are extended and this adds cost for materials as well as engineering. Keep this in mind while purchasing your mount as you want to make sure the joints are solid or the television will not stay in the positions you move it to leading to frustrating experiences. The most popular choice for this type of mount is the Omnimount Cantilever TV Mount.

So what types of things can you do with a cantilever TV mount? The obvious answer is mount it on the wall, but this type of mount has nearly endless other options. Often used in furniture cabinets because it allows the television to come forward out of the furniture as well as rotate toward the viewer. Often used for mounting from the ceiling or in higher areas like bookcases since the TV can be tilted and rotated. In rooms where there is natural lighting that may impact the viewing experience this mount allows the television to be moved at angles to avoid the light glare, etc. You get the picture, ideas are endless.

Note that although you will often see cantilever mounts listed as cantilever plasma TV wall mount or cantilever LCD TV mount they can be used for both TV types. Just make sure the mount you purchase will support the mounting holes on your television. There are standards for this, see our VESA TV Mount section for details on the standard. Normally the television will list what type of mounting holes it support and you can find a mount that matches or a Universal TV Mount that works with most televisions.

All in all, if the cost is not a deterrent, a TV cantilever wall mount will allow for the most flexibility in viewing angles and options and is the best choice for most situations.
