Home Theater Seating

When considering home theater seating, there are several things to think about.

First is the type of seat you are interested in. Home Theater seating, Movie Theater seating or sofas are the most popular choices.

Second is location. The location of the seating is directly related to the screen size. If your room size is your limiting factor you may want to determine your best seating arrangement then select the screen. If you are blessed with a large room you can pick the screen size then determine the best seating arrangement for your screen.

Next consider your home theater seating arrangement. If multiple rows of seating are planned will a riser be used, and if so, will there be every row visibility or every other row. This decision will determine the height of each floor of the riser. If more then one row of seating is planned and a riser is not used or every other row seating is used then alternate seat spacing is recommended. Alternate seat spacing means the seats are staggered so that the back row is looking between the seats in front of it.

Finally consider other effects like a tactile shaker (Often called Buttkicker after the first company that made them popular for home use). A tactile shaker adds the deep bass shaking experience without requiring a massive subwoofer turned up really load. This experience enhances explosions, volcanic eruptions, etc. basically anything that would normally cause the area around you to shake in real life.

There are several ways to add tactical shakers to your seating. A tactical shaker can be added to all types of seating such as sofas, chairs, home theater loungers or floors and risers themselves. One thing to keep in mind is that the shaker does take up some room therefore may not fit in some existing furniture. In that case you can mount the shaker to a board and place the furniture on the board. The shaker does require power and a connection to the amplifier. The amplifier connection can be done wirelessly using something like the ButtKicker-Link which provides a wireless connection to the amplifier.

Some companies that make tactical shakers are:
Buttkicker
Clark Synthesis Tactile Sound Transducer
Crowson Tactile Transducers
Aura Sound

One common issue with tactical shakers is that they produce a buzzing sound. This is because they work at low frequencies and if high frequencies are sent to them it causes the buzzing. The buzzing can be removed one of two ways. One is to use an amplifier that has a sub output, which will not send high frequencies. The other solution is an inline low-pass filter, which blocks the higher frequencies. We recommend the $7.99 RCA ground loop isolator adapter from Amazon.com. The isolator connects in-line between the receiver and ButtKicker amp and removes the hum.
