Projection TV Ceiling Mount

Projection TV Ceiling Mount

Options for a projection TV ceiling mount are just now becoming available, therefore the choices are limited. Although Plasma and LCD mounts are plentiful, finding a mount for a DLP projection television, also known as rear projection televisions, is much more difficult.

Note, this article addresses mounting of DLP projection televisions, if you are looking for projector ceiling mount and not a TV, please see our projector mounts section.

The late arrival of these mounts is due mainly to the depth of DLP televisions being 10-15 inches rather than the 3-5 inches typical of Plasma and LCD TVs. However the size is decreasing and the price to quality is very favorable which is making DLP televisions very popular. Of course as they gain in popularity the mounts are becoming available. At this time the mounts are very basic. There are limited wall mounts and ceiling mounts available.

As far as ceiling mounts go, the standard advice applies, make sure you have room for the television and that you can either tilt the TV down or have enough distance from it to get a good viewing angle. Of course you will need something fairly sturdy to attach the mount to. Depending on the size, these televisions can weigh several hundred pounds meaning you may need to add some supports in the attic or ceiling to carry the weight. Definitely not something you want to fall and if not mounted securely your TV may also vibrate causing announces during your favorite programming.

All in all, going with a DLP TV and a projection TV ceiling mount is not a bad way to go. You can get a lot of TV for the money, compared to DLP and Plasma, and the size difference between the true flat screens and a DLP TV problem does not make much of a difference if the television is ceiling mounted.
