TV Pedestal Mount

TV Pedestal Mount

A TV pedestal mount is one of the most common kinds of mounts for a plasma or LCD screen. Pedestal mounts are used for all different sizes and styles of screens; even a very large screen of 60 to 103 inches (distance measured from corner to opposite corner) can be set on a pedestal mount – it is one of the sturdiest kinds of mounts, and it is also the simplest kind of mount to set up.

Most other mounting systems which connect to the wall or the ceiling (or to a cabinet or other kind of piece of furniture) require drilling some holes and screwing the mount into the studs of the wall to create a firm connection (if you are installing an LCD or plasma TV screen on the wall, you may also want to cut holes in the wall to run your cables, because a wall screen looks better if there are no wires hanging from it); with a TV pedestal stand, all you need is a flat surface capable of holding the television. Just make sure that the surface you are going to place the TV pedestal mount on is level and is stable enough for the weight of your TV, as some of the larger plasma and LCD TV screens can weight well over one hundred pounds.

Many LCD / plasma and other varieties of flat screens come with fitted TV mount stands in the box as part of the installation kit – if the flat screen TV that you have purchased or are about to purchase does not come with a pedestal mount, then you can easily buy one that will fit your screen. Just make sure that the pedestal that you buy is wide enough to fit the bottom of your screen, is rated to be able to support the amount that your screen weighs, and also that it is the right kind of mount model, as there are different kinds of mount connections that are common and used for multiple brands of television screens. See our VESA Mount page for details on mount standards.

All in all, a TV pedestal mount is one of the most flexible and reliable ways to position your new television screen, no matter what kind of screen you have. The only drawback is that, since the mount will not rotate or tilt, with a TV pedestal stand it may be difficult for you to reposition your TV or change its orientation, but if you know where you will want to consistently view the TV from that won’t be a problem.
